1. Be Punctual – avoid arriving late!
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before class is due to start, this is the time for paying, notices and getting ready.
Class will start promptly at 6pm (teens) 7.15 (adults)
2. Wear appropriate Clothing!
Do not wear jeans or other restrictive clothing. Do not wear full costumes
Please wear loose clothing, stretchy leggings, or full length skirts. Wear layers, so you can remove/add
depending on temperature. Feet should be bare or wear ballet slippers. No trainers or shoes.
3. Respect the teacher – Pay attention!
Please do not talk over the teacher. Part of the fun of dance class is the interaction with others, but there are
limits. Keep talking and giggling to a minimum.
Keep focused on the teacher. If you have a relevant question. Please ask. Whether it is a demonstration or a
verbal instruction. You are paying for a class & so are others make sure you get your moneys worth.
4. Younger children in class!
Nefertiri is open to all, no-one is excluded so this means that some students need to bring their
younger children along so we all need to be understanding on this. For those bringing their children; you are
responsible for them at all times. If they stay in the hall they must sit quietly at the back, if they wish to play
they may use the back room. At the end of class, please make sure that everything it put away
5. Do not eat food or chew gum in class!
It is not polite to keep nipping off to grab a bite to eat whilst the class is running. Chewing gum and eating
sweets whilst dancing is dangerous.
6. Inform the teacher of any change!
If you are injured or unwell, inform the teacher so she may know your limitations. Also it is your responsibility
to make sure your contact details or emergency details are up-to-date.
7. Warm ups and Cool downs!
It is imperative that you warm-up and cool down after ANY work-out. A warm-up gets our body ready to dance.
It lubricates and stretches the muscles so that when we come to our work-out we do not injure ourselves.
Also within a warm-up are sometimes combinations which may be used in class and choreographies. If you’ve
missed it you are playing catch-up.
After a class your body is hot and the muscles need time to slow down and cool off and stretch out. If you go
straight out into the cooler air outside they may seize up. Also if you are feeling tired after dancing a cool down
gives you time to relax, meditate and revitalise yourself.
ALSO - if you choose to not to the cool down - PLEASE GET YOUSELF TOGETHER & LEAVE QUICKLY &
DESCREETLY so not to disturb those that are relaxing. This applies to people taking you home and children or
teenagers that are waiting for you or being collected themselves.
8. Avoid being a know-it-all!
Let the teacher teach! If you need to talk to the teacher about something unless its asking a question about
what is being taught then please stay behind after class to talk or call or email at a later date
9. Take notes whilst sitting down!
If for some reason you need to sit out for a while, do so quietly. It is distracting to others if someone at the
side is nattering away whilst everyone else is trying to learn. Continue to pay attention to the class, you can
still learn by watching! Take notes so you can remember and practice at home. When you feel ready to
participate again, please return quietly, to the back of the class as not to distract the other students.
10. Performances!
If you wish to participate in performances, you need to be at classes and rehearsals before a performance.
Participation in a performance requires that you know all of the steps and are able to accurately execute those
movements in time with the music without following other classmates or the instructor at least one week
before the time of the show.
11. Be open minded – Enjoy yourself!
You will benefit by learning all you can about the given subject. Take pride in your Nefertiri dance school, your
teacher, your classmates, yourself, but always maintain humility, no matter how good a dancer you become.
Enjoy it all & Keep dancing
